Born into a musical family (her father is Brian Poole of Tremeloes fame), it’s no wonder that Karen became involved in music from an early age. Growing up, she served her songwriting apprenticeship in the band Alisha’s Attic, where she shared writing and singing duties with her sister Shellie.
With Eurythmics Dave Stewart as producer on their first album, Alisha’s Attic were praised by critics in the late 90’s for their “perfect radio songs” and went on to have success both in the UK and overseas. Alisha’s Attic sold a million records worldwide, became darlings of the British and international media and were nominated for multiple awards, including a Brit Award and a prestigious Ivor Novello songwriting award.
Karen has had over thirty Top 10 UK hits ranging from the infectious “Wow” by Kylie Minogue, the heartfelt “Caught in the Moment” by Sugababes to the UK #1 dance anthem, “Lola’s Theme,” by Shapeshifters.
The diverse range of artists she has worked with include David Guetta, Lily Allen, Annie Lennox, Kylie Minogue, Sugababes, Galantis, Will Young, and Olly Murs, among many others. She has also co-written with some of the industry’s most talented producers including Greg Kurstin, Steve Mac, Eg White, Bloodshy and Avant, William Orbit, Fraser T Smith, Wayne Hector, Carl Falk, Naughty Boy and Chase & Status.
In Asia Karen has had cuts with K-Pop superstars and multiple platinum selling Girls Generation, Boa, FX, Taeyon and J-pop superstar Namie Amuro among others as well as multiple European releases.
Karen has also co-written the hugely anticipated ‘Bridget Jones Diary’ musical with multiple Grammy winning producer Greg Kurstin and Lily Allen.
